Your role
Under the supervision of a director, the cultural reporter-editor is responsible for covering the arts scene in Ottawa, Gatineau, and the surrounding areas. The ideal candidate must have an excellent understanding of cultural news at the international, national, and regional levels and a keen interest in various forms of art, including music, literature, performing arts, cinema, and visual arts. The candidate must be able to present and critique a work across multiple platforms, including radio, television, and written formats for digital platforms. She or he must also be willing to work collaboratively with other reporters and directors to share content and ideas, as well as propose original stories that stand out and create impactful journalism. Mastery of different social media platforms is essential to promote content effectively.
The cultural reporter will primarily work on the radio show Sur le vif from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. during the week but may be called upon to contribute to other shows and digital content.
Excellent spoken and written French, as well as on-camera delivery skills, are essential for this full-time, 1 year contract.
We are seeking a candidate who meets the following profile:
  • University degree or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience in cultural journalism
  • Strong knowledge of new technologies and social media
  • Superior writing skills and an interest in multi-platform media production
  • Ability to produce relevant, audience-focused reports that reflect cultural issues being discussed by the general public
  • Ability to react quickly to breaking news
  • Knowledge of cultural events and issues in the Outaouais and Eastern Ontario, with a strong interest in these areas
  • A sense of innovation and risk-taking
  • Commitment to reflecting the community and diversity
  • Good command of English
